Awkward words

December 15th, 2008

The greatest weakness of most humans is their hesitancy to tell others how much they love them while they’re still alive.
- O. A. Battista

This is so true. And I’m afraid that it is actually in my family. We grew up with a tough dad. Sure, he shows us he loves us but the words were, and still are, never spoken. For some reason, it feels awkward when we try to speak of what we feel. Actions are more appropriate for our family.

Maybe, in time, we will get more comfortable with the words. For now, actions will do.

We also did not have that with our parents.
Now, I always say I love you to my son and husband and friends. I am trying to do that often with my mother too though we are not that close.

How true this is! Unfortunately, this very quote touched my life this past week when a dear friend passed on.
